Driving Digest – Sussex West

BDS West Sussex – April 2016.

BDS West Sussex held their show on April 23rd. After a soggy winter and a soggier spring the venue had to changed at short notice as the museums arena was waterlogged. To our great relief Mr Jeffrey Osborne offered  us the use of his land at East Ashling, for which we are incredible grateful. We were furnished with a large arena, ample parking and a large area for working in, and a super view of his bluebell woods. The weather was bright and chilly, and after a previous day of miserable rain it was nice to see the sun come out.

We welcomed four turnouts for our Beginners and improvers class, two who were new members and had never done any driving classes before, they grew in confidence and were able to enter the novice whip class later, which was won by Carly Smart with her pretty coloured pony,Penrheol Goshawk.

Our exercise and non traditional classes followed on with quality turnouts forward, with Mandy Burdock, Gail Ramsden, Jemma Cooper all class winners.

Mountain and Moorland winner was Steve Tubb with his chestnut Welsh section D Bertie with Diane Siviter taking the blue rosette.

Private Driving produced a fine class, six stunning turnouts came forward for the judge, Mrs Mary Ford from Hampshire. Steve Tubb was our winner with Lucy Smith with Waunoris Melody in second place. Steve went on to take the Championship with Lucy as Reserve Champion.

Many Thanks to all our competitors who braved the rain the day before to prepare for the show and who came forward to make the show a success. A big thank you to our judge, Mary Ford who gave competitors her time and full consideration, and once again a huge thank you to Mr Osborne who saved the day by stepping in and allowing the use of his farm.
