On Easter Monday eight turnouts braved the cold weather and donned their Easter bonnets to drive at Monnington Court at the invitation of John Bulmer. The drive took them through cider orchards and quiet farm tracks and altghough only about four miles it was a lovely opener for 2013. See gallery.
Our next rally will be Jim and Frank's Memorial Rally at Kingstone. Please note this will now be on 28th April not the 7th April as originally listed.

The Monnington Drive will go ahead. it will be a short drive,no more than 4 miles around lanes and orchards. Drive off 2:00 - 2:30pm individually.
Please bring your own refreshments as we will be parked a little way from the usual spot.
Easter bonnets will be judged prior to leaving and the prize for the best one awarded on everyone's return.

Following a meeting today we have decided that because of the recent issues surrounding Health and Safety and the spate of accidents involving carriage horses we are going to make all our BDS Herefordshire events BDS Members only. This is because we are taking it as read that if participants are members they will have read the health and safety recommendations that the BDS promote.
All our drives and events are run complying with these recommendations.
Please note:
- We will be expecting all juniors under 16 years of age to wear a hard hat when driving at any event and strongly recommend that ALL drivers wear hard hats on road drives.
- All horses and ponies should be harnessed and put to correctly and safely and will be checked before going out on a drive.
- No horses should EVER have their bridles removed before being put to or taken out of the carriage.
- All whips should remain on the Box Seat until a competent person is at the horses head.
- No horses should be tied up to anything whilst still attached to the carriage.
- No turnout will be allowed to take part in an event without a competent groom.
- All drivers must wear hi vis when driving on the road at an event.

This should go a long way to keeping us all safe.

The training due to have taken place on Sunday 17th March (Tomorrow) has been postponed due to adverse ground conditions. We will rearrange this before the Mock Test Day with Sarah.

It has been decide that for some people attending the course the BDS test is proving quite expensive and so here in Herefordshire we are working with the HDDG to provide a Competency test similar to the ones run by the driving trials groups. This will be based on the old BDS Prelim and Road Test syallabus and will provide a certificate of attendance with an approved competency level.
This may help should you be involved in accident it will prove you have undergone some training and were deemed competent to drive your turnout on the road.
Sarah Wildy will be testing and signing the certificates in her capacity as our local LHHI. The cost for this will be confirmed later but is likely to be no more then £30.00.

Places will be limited and if you want to bring your horse it may be possible for Chris to demonstrate on your horse.

The BDS Monnington rally is confirmed for Easter Monday. Drive off from 2.30pm. Mostly off road.

Much Marcle Rally confirmed for 28th April from 11.30 drive off - lunch at the pub after if required. Please book in with Kay or Roy.
