Butter and provision importer Stanley Cartwright, Grafton Street, Beverley
Road, Hull,1908. Of special note is the splendidly groomed grey mare and
well turned out grocer's van.
In 1919 Mr.Cartwright turned his attention to hotel keeping, becoming
proprietor of the Manchester Hotel,George Street Hull.

'Cleanliness next to godliness' would seem to be an apt description as far
as Allison's Steam Laundry was concerned, located as it was next door to a
branch of the Salvation Army in Hawthorne Avenue, West Hull. A pair of
Alison's horse-drawn vans,normally piled with wicker linen baskets, are
specially posed to promote the laundry,c.1912 |

This wagon is a fine advertisement, not only for the Lavender Sanitary
Laundry run by F. and C. Miles, but also for it's makers J. Boon & Sons |

This Brewery Wagon is standing outside J.Boon & Sons' yard in Park Road
where it was made.

Delivery cart of Premier Mineral Water Co,c.1914. The manufactory was in
Market House. The mineral water was advertised as 'made in the shadow of the
Clock Tower'. |

1915

Smalley & Son's shop and delivery cart at 373 High Street, Lincoln. the firm
had several shops in the city and surrounding district. Note the prominent
sign for 'oysters' and the telephone number on the cart, which is being
driven by a young lad. |

Norwich Society delivery vehicle 1936; Arthur Preston left and Frank Tate
right. CWS goods were highly regarded and well publicised. The poster reads,
"Happy Shopper - ask for CWS Goods at your Co-operative Society". |
1945

Mr Jack Davey holding 'Blue Silver' with one of nineteen Ipswich Co-op
greengrocery vans. All parts of Ipswich and Felixstowe were supplied three
times weekly with fruit and vegetables. There were also grocery and dry
goods delivery vans and customers were advised to leave word at the nearest
co-op branch if they wanted the van to call. |
