Sir John Miller Carriage
Collection
The late Sir John Miller served as President of our
Society from April 1982 right up to his death in May 2006 and as one
might expect, the BDS was never far from his thoughts during such a
distinguished term of office. When making arrangements for his Estate in
the eventuality of his passing, he continued to provide for his beloved
Society and made specific provision for his carriage collection to be
bequeathed to the British Driving Society, with his express wish that
they be loaned out to Members for their use and enjoyment.
The seven carriages included in Sir John’s bequest
have now been photographed and a Schedule of Condition prepared for each
carriage together with Proposed Vehicle Lease Terms appropriately drawn
up and approved by Council at their recent April meeting. All these
details have now been included on the Website for Members consideration
and for those interested in leasing one of the carriages then please
contact Richard Lanni to further discuss and make arrangements to view
the vehicles at a mutually convenient time.
The carriages are currently being held in Scotland,
near Glasgow for safe keeping and will be allocated on a ‘First Come
First Served’ basis. So those Members interested should make contact
without delay to ensure they may achieve the use of their vehicle for
the coming driving season.
