Orkney Driveout
Club Drive Out at South Ronaldsay, Orkney
15th May 2005

Last Sunday's drive saw 4 equines, 16 wheels and 32 legs in action as the club fielded four, 4 wheeler carriages for the South Ronaldsay Drive!

Well only the horses' legs in action really - apart from Adrian running through the cones course that is. A big thank you to Suki and Geoff for hosting the drive and providing a "fun" cones course all laid out for us. We all had a turn or two through the cones course, which included off set cones and a slalom, before having a little timed fun, but modesty forbids me mentioning the who won!

The weather held as we started out on a "farm" drive* round about the tracks and fields and through the water crossing, which all the horses took great delight in splashing through. Then a mad dash up the field, out into the open road as the drizzle started to fall.

Our spirits couldn't be dampened, even though I had managed to leave all my wet weather gear in the back of the car, and we took a lovely tour lead by Suki and Geoff, who took it in turns to either drive Tom or take pictures of the proceedings. En route home, stopping to take in the views and posing for photos at the view point before heading back, giving the horses a well deserved rub down before retiring to "the sun room" for soup and brownies.

The next Drive will be in Deerness, on Sunday the 12th June - time to be confirmed - please keep an eye on our new Website for further details: www.orkneycommunities.co.uk/CARRIAGEDRIVING

All welcome - if anyone is in the area and wishes to attend - we'll find a seat on one of the turnouts - and we always share our sandwiches!

SWH&AP in the photoS L-R: Jane with William, Sharon and Marie with Apache, Geoff and Suki with Tom, April with Rhona and Co. Jane's "groom" Adrian took the photo so deserves a mention too!
