Amersham horses - update FROM JOHN PARKER, CHAIRMAN OF THE BRITISH DRIVING SOCIETY
Dear Members, Great News ! At about 3.00pm today ( Monday 14th April) a High Court Judge overturned the decision to return the Amersham horses to James Grey. This means that the National Equine Welfare Council’s Petition has now closed, having had 19,000 + signatures since Friday. However, this does not mean that the horses, ponies and donkeys are safe yet, and we may still need your support in the future. Things are obviously moving very fast at the moment, and it is not always possible to update the BDS website quickly enough. If you would like updates on this case as they become available, please e-mail me at bdshorsewelfare@aol.com and I will do a mass e-mail with any breaking news. In the meanwhile, please remember that the equine welfare organisations desperately need our support. I cannot begin to tell you how devastated the staff at Redwings, the ILPH and Horse Trust were when we spoke to them. I will be happy to pass on any messages of support, or you can e-mail them direct through their websites : International League for the Protection of Horses :
www.ilph.org Thank you very much for all your help and support. Regards John Parker |

EARLIER STORY Dear Member, As you may know, a magistrate has ordered that the horses, ponies and donkeys which were rescued from Amersham must either be returned to the owner or sold at public auction by Friday 18th April 2008. The BDS wishes to support the National Equine Welfare Council’s on-line petition to the Lord Chancellor to have this decision reconsidered. The issue is urgent, because the horses are due to be returned or sold on Friday 18th April. Please would you visit the National Equine Welfare Council’s web site at www.newc.co.uk follow the links to the petition, and fill in the form. It only takes a couple of minutes to complete. I would be grateful if you could also ask anyone else you know who would be interested in supporting the equine welfare organizations in this matter.
