2012 Winner

Mirren Wilson (Age 13)

I attended a junior driving day held by the British Driving Society, Scotland Branch, at Ken Ruthven Carriages just outside of Lockerbie. I wanted to try out driving as the pony that I ride for Julia Whitaker also drives and thought it looked great fun. Julia then put my name forward for the driving day. I found it very informative and a wonderful experience.

In the morning we got lessons on the appropriate mode of dress for different driving classes. We were then taught about the different driving bits and how to choose the correct one for your horse or pony. In the afternoon we went outside and had experience of driving a single and a pair. I thoroughly enjoyed this. The driving day has made me much more confident in my driving abilities.

I am very proud and excited to have won the Anthea Greenlees Scottish Scholarship and to represent Scotland at the UK Brian Sims Junior Drivers Scholarship at Long Bennington, Nottinghamshire in August. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who helped to arrange the junior driving day
