A marathon vehicle made by Ken Jackson was stolen last Tuesday night, 11th November 2003.

It was for an 11.2-12.2 pony. Distinguishing features were that the backstep was an integral part of the carriage and had a worn solid metal step. There was a single footbrake and the steps for entering and leaving the vehicle were lower than usual.

If you are able to help it would be much appreciated. Please contact number Heather Nestel on 01233 620080 e-mail bandhnestel@aol.com

A Marathon carriage was stolen from my drive in Chiddingfold, Surrey in the early afternoon on 30th September 2003, having been left unattended for no more than 20 minutes.

The carriage is a burgundy coloured (with yellow pin stripes) team weight marathon vehicle fitted with a pole (I still have the shafts!). It is marked number 011 where the pole pin is located and is recognisable as it has unusual disc brakes fitted with countersunk bolts. The discs were recently replaced and the locating holes drilled incorrectly, so there are a set of unused holes around the disc.

Please contact Mike Stamp on 01428 682759 (or stampm@aol.com) if you are offered such a vehicle for sale.

  • A selection of black patent and brass driving bridles to fit cob size and upwards.

Carriagecraft exercise cart and tack
Stolen on 28 April 2003 from West Handley, Chesterfield, Derbyshire - "Carriagecraft" 2 wheeled exercise cart for 14.3hh pony, made of varnished wood. Had a plaque with "made by Carriagecraft" on the rear and also 2 reflectors stuck on the rear. Had a light brown coloured corduroy cushion with a black cushion on top of this. All metal work had been repainted with black hammerite and was new looking.

Also stolen was brand new "spyder" head collar and red lead rope, black Dunne & Co bowler hat, Charles Owen riding helmet, red head collar and lead rope with solid metal fittings, 5 1/2" Liverpool bit and 5 1/2" mullen mouth Pelham bit and a brand new red farmers knife.

The offenders had bolt cropped all padlocks and chains and forced all doors open. They stole a flat bed trailer from neighbouring premises which they brought across to our field by cutting fence wire. All my property was then loaded onto this trailer and then stolen.

Three vehicles

During the early hours of Friday 18th April 3 pony vehicles were stolen. Photos of each are attached for information. The thieves had entered through the adjoining farmer’s field. They had opened 3 gates crossed three fields before crossing a ditch and cutting a fence and then removing the three vehicles from the barn.

They are all very distinctive vehicles, the first one being a small London trolley which will only fit the smallest of pony, mine being a Shetland who is some 36” high. It is dark brown with cream shafts and red & cream edgings.

The second vehicle is a purpose built two wheeled trap for the same pony above. It again is dark brown with brown velvet upholstery (buttoned), cream wheels, it has a box in the back with a pull down brass knob. The back of the vehicles is wicker. There is a brass plaque with the makers name “Ian Barow” at the rear. The vehicle is sprung.

The third vehicle was purpose built for a 42” Shetland pony and is dark blue with navy leather upholstery with varnished woodwork. The shafts are very distinctive as they are quite raised with a definite arch at the top. The seat lifts forward which gives access to storage space. There is a brass plaque at the rear with “Ian Barlow”. The vehicle is sprung and there is an iron step made from a horseshoe on the passenger’s side.

All of these vehicles have been in our family for approx 25 years. This violation on my life is absolutely unbearable as these ponies now approaching 30, and their vehicles have been my life for this period of time. I can offer a reward to any information leading to the return of these vehicles. I feel sick when I think these people have invaded my life and left such misery behind them. Any help you are able to offer will be greatly appreciated and I would not be able to thank you enough.

The area of the theft was at Bethersden, Near Ashford, Kent. If you have any information, please telephone 01233 820321.
