Surrey Area Scholarship

The Surrey Area Committee are pleased to invite Surrey Members to apply for the Stella Hancock Memorial Driving Scholarship, which has been established through the generosity of members contributing to the Memorial Fund set up following the sudden death of Stella Hancock, a former Secretary and Assistant Area Commissioner.

The Scholarship is open to any Surrey (Area 29) member from beginner to experienced whip (junior or adult, disabled or able-bodied), and is an excellent opportunity to improve driving skills and general knowledge through professional tuition tailored to meet the applicants’ individual needs. Applicants who were unsuccessful in previous years are welcome to re-apply. The Scholarship can be taken as a short residential course, with or without your own turnout or in the form of a series of individual lessons. The successful applicant will be able to choose from one of the following four instructors:-
  • John Parker: 4 day residential course with or without your own turnout, tailor-made to suit the individual. He teaches from 10am-5pm and accommodation will be provided on a Bed and Breakfast basis, locally.

  • Barry Luck: A series of lessons, with your own turnout, either at the member’s home or some other convenient venue.

  • Gary Docking: A series of lessons or a course to suit the applicant’s preferences. Accommodation available.

  • Caroline Douglas: A series of lessons tailor-made to suit the applicant, with or without your own turnout, to suit your preferences.
Surrey (Area 29) members are invited to apply in writing by Friday 3rd June 2011. Each application will be considered individually and the result announced at the Surrey Area Carriage Driving Show in the following July. Please send your application to:-
