TRAINING You are strongly recommended to train with BDS-approved Training Providers. You may train full-time, part-time, or take intensive short courses, depending on your budget, availability of time, and existing experience. For example, someone new to the role and responsibilities of a Harness Horse Groom, working with horses in Agriculture or training horses, who is still in full-time education, might choose a full-time course, and may link it with an appropriate College course. However, a mature, experienced Learner wishing to achieve this Qualification to endorse existing skills, may opt for a part-time or intensive short course. Please contact individual Training Providers for details and choose the course which you believe will suit you best. Training Courses will include routine horse care and stable management, leading to Units which are shared with and recognised by the British Horse Society (BHS), British Horseracing Standards and Education Trust (BHEST), City & Guilds, and Edexcel/BTec. This provides you with transferable skills into other parts of the equestrian sector. Similarly, if you already have equivalent horse care and stable management qualifications you may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and not have to do these twice. The horse care and stable management part of the Qualification is normally studied at the same time as the harness-horse specific section, so you do not have to complete horse care before starting on elements specific to harness horse driving. Clicking on your chosen Qualification and Pathway will take you to the Qualification specifications and a summary of what you have to do to achieve each Unit. If you have any queries, please go to the Education Enquiry Form fill in and return it to us. |
