14th July 2019
The annual Surrey Area BDS Show held at Horton Country Park, Epsom was a great success with a very good entry from competitors far and wide. The entry included a good contingent from Surrey which was very pleasing.
Vanessa Neal, our judge for the day, was kept busy from word go with a well filled Exercise class. Gemma Moody with Baldwins Honky Tonk Girl took the class and also the Novice Whip Cup.
The Pleasure class went to Mark Armstrong with Sunshine a delightful coloured cob. Katie Cooper took the Surrey Whip with Braglen Splendour and the Young Driver class winner was a very happy Leah Redsell driving Nutfield the Contender.
The World and Rare Breeds class went to Josie Randall with her super hackney Heartland Starlighter.
In the Hackney wagon classes the overall Hackney Champion was the pony Heartland Step over the Moon driven by Richard Walker and the Reserve went to the horse Marylind The Hitman with Gemma Walsh.
The Private Driving over 13.2hh was another very strong class and Joe Rowe took the honours here with Noddyvyse Temptation.
Sharon Wootton driving Lodeside Flash Harry to a Mulliner Dog Cart swept the board winning both the Private Driving under 13.2hh and Welsh Private Driving class.
Liz Edmonds with Mayland Magpie caught the Concours d’Elegance judges’ eye and was award the top stop in this class.
The Light Trade saw some good turnouts forward with John Henry White taking the class with Trixes Charlie driven to a Butchers Cart.
The Show Championship was a very hotly contested affair and after careful consideration Vanessa Neal awarded the Championship to a delighted Sharon Wootton with Lodeside Flash Harry with Joe Rowe and Noddyvyse Temptation in Reserve.
Many thanks to our judge, stewards and helpers who together with the Country Park Staff work tirelessly throughout the day to make the Show both enjoyable and welcoming to all our wonderful competitors.
